- INFINITI's flagship SUV reimagined with tuned VR38DETT GT-R NISMO engine
- Statement-making design inspired by GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition, including GT-R brakes and custom suspension upgrades
- Project vehicle showcases the depth and capabilities of INFINITI's performance engineering
LAS VEGAS – INFINITI turns its flagship luxury SUV into an unexpectedly raw performance machine with the QX80 R-Spec build1, making its public debut at the 2025 SEMA Show. It has unprecedented performance from a version of the legendary Nissan GT-R's twin-turbo engine tuned to be capable of 1,000 horsepower.
QX80 R-Spec unleashes INFINITI's luxury flagship and makes an adrenaline-pumping statement about how QX80 can excite and empower clients. Following the introduction of the 650-plus-horsepower QX80 Track Spec concept at Monterey Car Week, R-Spec is a far more extreme, no-holds barred study of powerful yet luxurious SUV variants.
The INFINITI QX80 R-Spec build features a GT-R sourced 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 that has received extensive modifications to be capable of 1,000 horsepower, with custom turbochargers, intercoolers, exhaust manifolds and an upgraded fuel system. Selecting a GT-R engine as a donor for this build was a direct nod to the lineage of the standard twin-turbo V6 in QX80, which is directly related to and incorporates numerous engineering innovations from GT-R.
"QX80 R-Spec is extreme, aggressive and a showcase of what INFINITI can do when our engineering and design teams take off all the guardrails," said Tiago Castro, vice president, INFINITI Americas. "With the QX80 R-Spec build, we challenged ourselves to explore an even more extreme direction for QX80 as we look to a future with high-performance variants that offer a broader breadth of adrenaline-pumping capabilities for our clients. We gave our team the freedom to be creative and dream of the unexpected as we redefine the future of luxury in a way that combines visceral performance with incomparable refinement."
QX80 R-Spec harnesses this additional horsepower with Nissan GT-R carbon ceramic brakes featuring bespoke modifications to match them with QX80. A custom coilover suspension optimizes handling. R-Spec wears bronze 24-inch wheels designed to resemble those from the GT-R, with a 12-inch width accommodating 315 section-width tires for exceptional grip levels.
Matching its upgraded capabilities, QX80 R-Spec wears a custom body kit that is wider, lower and aerodynamically enhanced. All of its visual enhancements are directly inspired by the GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition, starting with an incredible, color-shifting wrap that pays homage to the Midnight Purple colors made famous on the R34 and R35 GT-R generations. The R-Spec also has restyled exhaust finishers, diffusers, fog lights, badges and other design cues similarly drawn from the T-Spec Takumi Edition, making the connection to GT-R even clearer. This aggressive new appearance exaggerates the already powerful design of the INFINITI QX80 and clearly connotes its exhilarating level of performance.
The INFINITI QX80 reset expectations in the full-size luxury SUV segment when it was introduced as an all-new model for the 2025 model year, and this year raised the bar further with the introduction of the nameplate's first-ever SPORT grade. Notable recognition for the new QX80 includes a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for 20252, a spot in the Popular Science Best of What's New Awards in the automotive category, a Best-in-Class Premium SUV award from the New England Motor Press Association and top honors for Best New Interior and Best Interior from the Texas Auto Writers Association.
