DETROIT – The Q50 Eau Rouge is INFINITI’s first-ever Formula One inspired premium sports sedan concept. The brand debuted it for the first time at Detroit’s North American International Auto Show.
“We are here today to take the brand to places we’ve never been before,” said Johan de Nysschen, President of INFINITI Motor Company, Ltd.
The Eau Rouge sits low and wide, taking a noticeably aggressive stance. It has new, extended front and rear fenders and a larger deck lid spoiler that creates air-pressure down force. With the exception of the front doors and the roof pillar arch, every exterior panel is unique to the vehicle.
“We’ve taken that science of aerodynamics and made it artful,” said Alfonso Albaisa, INFINITI's Executive Design Director.
Inside, there is special carbon fiber detailing, a high-grip sports steering wheel, and F1-style paddle shifters. The vehicle could be a significant hint at what is to come for INFINITI.
“We certainly think, that if we were ever to bring to production the Q50 Eau Rouge, the equilibrium would never be disturbed as ever before,” said de Nysschen.
The INFINITI brand launched at NAIAS in Detroit 25 years ago and is now entering a new quarter century. The brand has a new management team, new global headquarters, an expanding product portfolio, local production coming in China and Europe, strategic alliances, and a Formula One partnership.
“The United States is our most important market. Our brand was really conceived for the United States,” said de Nysschen.
The INFINITI Eau Rouge concept is the latest example of how the future of INFINITI is being driven by design.
