INFINITI is celebrating its 2015, and 25th, model year in in a big way – with the introduction of the new extended wheelbase INFINITI Q70L. The new addition to the Q70 lineup, which is expected to account for around 40 percent of total 2015 Q70 sales, offers a 5.9-inch longer wheelbase, 5.6 inches of additional rear seat legroom (41.8 inches total) and 5.9 inches of extra knee room (32.5 inches total). Along with its first class-style space, the Q70L is designed to provide smooth, luxurious ride comfort for all seating positions.

And, as expected of INFINITI’s flagship sedan, the new Q70L offers all the evocative design, invigorating performance, innovative technology and superior craftsmanship of the standard wheelbase Q70, including a choice of 3.7-liter V6 and 5.6-liter V8 engines and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Available advanced technologies include Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Backup Collision Intervention and Forward Emergency Braking.

Also offered are an advanced INFINITI Hard Drive Navigation System, Bose® Studio Surround® premium audio system, Blind Spot Warning, Blind Spot Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention systems, Enhanced Intelligent Key, Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist and Front Pre-Crash Seat Belts.

Sleek Lines, Seductive Curves, LED Lighting
Building on the foundation of the standard INFINITI Q70, which receives an extensive exterior refresh for 2015, the Q70L seamlessly ingrates the additional length behind the B-pillars – with the flowing, emotional lines and refined elegance of the vehicle taking on an even more upscale image. And, with the extended length of the Q70L’s rear doors, rear seat ingress and egress is enhanced – especially for taller passengers. Automatic power rear door clinchers are also standard.

The 2015 Q70L’s new LED headlights, which evoke inner intelligence and human insight, make an immediate and indelible first impression. An Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) with auto-leveling headlights is available as part of the Technology Package. The distinctive headlights accentuate the new double arch grille, which now takes on a more three-dimensional look due to the elaborate detail of the high-quality waved mesh finish and chrome surround. The same solid feel is echoed in the new front bumper with integrated LED fog lights, giving the Q70L a dignified presence on road.

From the front, a strong body line rises from the grille, flowing through the bodyside like a wave and blending into the shape of the new rear LED combination lights, forming a compelling profile that highlights the Q70L’s sporty stance. At the rear, the design of the taillights creates a horizontal flow in motion while the high-quality lighting signature evokes a fresh and classy image.

The top line of the trunk lid has been flattened while the rear bumper has been slimmed down to create a longer and lower visual impression, further emphasizing the premium sedan’s sporty and powerful styling. The chrome rear finisher adds a touch of class to the entire rear view. The new Q70L has a low coefficient of drag of just 0.27. Other standard exterior features include a power sliding tinted glass moonroof with one-touch open/close, tilt feature and sliding sunshade, power-folding heated outside mirrors with integrated LED turn signal with reverse tilt-down feature and rain-sensing variable intermittent front windshield wipers.

Also standard are and courtesy lamps built into the outside door handles, rear window defroster with timer, dual exhaust with polished tips and automatic trunk cincher.

The 2015 INFINITI Q70L is available in eight exterior colors: Hermosa Blue, Chestnut Bronze, Malbec Black, Liquid Platinum, Graphite Shadow, Storm Front Grey, Black Obsidian and Moonlight White with premium pearl finish.

Premium Interior, Meticulous Craftsmanship
Reflecting the sensuous lines of the exterior, the 2015 INFINITI Q70L’s well-appointed and inviting interior combines style with spaciousness. With 110.6 cubic feet of interior room (versus 103.6 cubic feet for the standard Q70), the Q70L stretches the expectations for comfort in class – including the ability of most rear seat passengers to cross their legs.

As with the standard wheelbase Q70, the instrument panel features Fine Vision gauges, gear-like rings on the instrument cluster meters, a 7-inch color vehicle information display and INFINITI analog clock. Leatherette, heated 10-way power driver and front passenger’s seats, including 2-way power lumbar support, are standard – along with a dual occupant memory system for the driver’s seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors, which can be linked to the individual INFINITI Intelligent Key fobs.

In addition, each Intelligent Key remembers the last-used climate control, audio and navigation settings. An entry/exit assist system for the driver’s seat and steering wheel, sequential welcome lighting illuminated entry system and dual-zone automatic temperature also add to the Q70L’s exceptional level of standard premium appointments.

Standard technology equipment includes Active Noise Control, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, HomeLink™ Universal Transceiver and RearView Monitor.

Other interior highlights include power windows with one-touch up/down and auto-reverse feature, power door locks with automatic locking feature, retained accessory power for windows and moonroof, and 6-speaker audio system with AM/FM/CD, Radio Data System (RDS), USB Connection Port for iPod® interface and other compatible devices, steering wheel audio controls and speed-sensitive volume control, rear reading lamps, and a 12V rear power outlet. Rear heated seats are available with the Premium Package.

INFINITI Q70L 5.6 models add an even higher level of standard equipment, including leather-appointed seats, INFINITI Hard Drive Navigation System with 8.0-inch WVGA color touch-screen display, NavTraffic with Real-Time Traffic Information, NavWeather with Real-Time Weather and 3-day forecast (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately), Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, Bose® 2-channel 10-speaker premium audio system, heated steering wheel, climate-controlled front seats, Front and Rear Sonar Systems and Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection.

A total of four interior colors are offered – Graphite, Stone, Wheat and Java.

Intelligent Performance, Choice of Drivetrains
Staying true to INFINITI’s roots of sporty precision, the new Q70L is offered with a range of powerful and efficient 3.7-liter V6 and 5.6-liter V8 engines. Both are equipped with Variable Valve Event & Lift (VVEL®), which combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side to help improve performance and response.

Throttle response is enhanced by directly controlling the intake valve, rather than using the traditional method of controlling intake with the throttle valve. The VVEL system also offers improved emissions and fuel efficiency (over non-VVEL designs) by substantially reducing the intake resistance that occurs when the engine's throttle valve opening is narrowed and output is low.

The refined 3.7-liter aluminum-alloy DOHC 24-valve V6 is rated at 330 hp @ 7,000 rpm and 270 lb/ft of torque @ 5,200 rpm.

It features rigid ladder frame construction, large crank journal and pin diameters, asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors, molybdenum coated lightweight pistons, Iridium spark plugs and a symmetric twin air intake system.

The Q70L’s powerful 5.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) aluminum-alloy DOHC 32-valve V8 is rated at 416 hp and 414 lb-ft of torque. The DIG system provides better wide-open throttle performance and improved fuel economy and emissions performance (compared to a non-direct injection system) by reducing engine knock, improving combustion stability and offered more precise injection control.

Both engines are matched to INFINITI’s advanced 7-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and manual shift mode with Downshift Rev Matching, which allows for sportier shifts during spirited driving.

The 2015 INFINITI Q70L is offered with a choice of rear-wheel drive or INFINITI’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, which uses an advanced torque split control strategy that automatically redistributes torque to the wheels (0:100 up to 50:50 front to rear) according to road and driving conditions, ensuring sure-footed road holding at all times.

Estimated fuel economy is rated at 18 mpg city/ 26 mpg highway for the Q70L 3.7 and 17 mpg city/ 24 mpg highway for the Q70L 3.7 AWD. The Q70L 5.6 is rated at 16 mpg city/ 24 mpg highway, while the Q70L 5.6 AWD achieves fuel economy of 16 mpg city / 23 mpg highway.

In line with the focus on the driver, the new Q70L features technologies that enable individuals to customize the driving feel. The unique INFINITI Drive Mode Selector allows drivers to select from four driving modes – Standard, Eco, Sport or Snow – and the integrated control system will adjust throttle sensitivity and transmission mapping to help optimize performance. The system also adjusts Active Trace Control and Eco Pedal settings (available with Technology Package). To encourage eco-driving behavior, the available Eco Pedal provides feedback directly through the accelerator by giving a slight pushback if driving inefficiently.

The 2015 Q70L utilizes the advanced INFINITI Front Mid-ship (FM) platform, which positions the engine behind the front axle, resulting in an optimized front-to-rear weight balance. Laser welding is carried out at critical locations to help enhance lateral bending stiffness, torsional stiffness and suspension mounting point stiffness.

Precise handling is provided by an independent double-wishbone design at the front and multi-link independent suspension in the rear, along with front and rear stabilizer bars. The rear suspension geometry has been designed to provide a quiet, comfortable ride. To increase ride comfort, INFINITI engineers have changed the shape of the oil seal lip in the shock absorbers to minimize uncomfortable “shaking and bobbing” as well as reduce the vibrations when driving on uneven roads.

The INFINITI Q70L's large diameter wheels and tires are positioned out near the corners of the vehicle, helping to enhance performance. Standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels – uniquely designed for the Q70L – and 245/50R18 all-season performance tires are offered on all models. In addition, the Performance Tire & Wheel Package offers split 5-spoke 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels mounted with 245/40R20 all-season performance tires.

Each 2015 Q70L utilizes standard 4-wheel power-assisted vented disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). Sport Brakes with larger rear rotors with 4-piston front/2-piston rear opposed calipers are included with the Performance Tire & Wheel Package.

The Q70L utilizes an electronically controlled speed-sensitive variable-assist power rack-and-pinion system. Helping the driver to maintain control of the vehicle at all times is INFINITI’s advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System.

The Active Trace Control system, available with the Technology Package, also adjusts engine torque and braking at each wheel to help enhance cornering performance.

Innovative Technologies
The 2015 Q70L’s long list of safety and security systems, which are available with the Technology Package, include the Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) system, which warns the drivers of risks that lie beyond the driver’s field of view, uses a sensor on the front of the vehicle to analyze not only the relative velocity and distance of a vehicle directly ahead, but also of a vehicle traveling in front of the preceding one. When the system detects potential risks, the system gives an alert to encourage the driver to decelerate in advance with a signal on the display, audible warning and also by tightening the seat belt. These functions work to help prevent pileup collisions that may be caused by late brake application by the driver.

Another advanced Q70L technology is the Around View® Monitor system, which takes the hassle out of parallel parking. The feature shows a bird’s-eye view of the vehicle in relation to parking lines, using four vehicle-mounted cameras that create a 360-degree view of what surrounds the vehicle and displaying it via the in-dash screen. The system includes Moving Object Detection, which alerts the driver to moving objects around the vehicle when pulling out of a parking space or backing up.

The Backup Collision Intervention® (BCI) system is a pioneering technology which intelligently detects crossing traffic, as well as large, stationary objects behind the vehicle when in reverse. When an approaching vehicle is detected, there is an audible alert and a flashing light that indicates its oncoming direction. As the vehicle gets closer, the driver hears three beeps and a red frame indicator on the in-dash display appears as an additional warning. If the driver fails to act, the system counteracts by pushing back on the accelerator and even engages the brakes momentarily.

Forward Emergency Braking detects potential forward obstacles and assists drivers in avoiding or mitigating collisions within a 5-to-50 mph range.

A camera installed in the front of the vehicle monitors the presence of vehicles or pedestrians ahead and the distance to them.

If the system determines there is a high risk of collision, it initially warns the driver with a visual signal and an audible alert. If the driver fails to decelerate, the system will apply an emergency brake and decelerate to either help avoid a collision or mitigate the damage if the collision could not be avoided

Other safety and driver assist systems includes the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems, which help keep the Q70L from unintentionally drifting into an adjacent lane in case the driver is distracted. Using a small camera behind the windshield to detect lane markers ahead, the technologies calculate the vehicle’s position relative to those lane markers and warn the driver of a potential unintended lane departure with visual and audible cues. If the driver does not steer the vehicle back toward the center of the lane, the LDP system assists the driver with a gentle application of brakes.

Two Q70L technologies help target driver blind spots. Blind Spot Warning (BSW) helps alert the driver to vehicles detected in the blind spot area, while Blind Spot Intervention® (BSI) actively intervenes by selectively braking if the driver ignores both visual and audible warnings and attempts to steer into the path of the vehicle in the blind spot. Other features include Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Distance Control Assist (DCA).

In addition, all INFINITI Q70L models come equipped with standard INFINITI Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensor; standard front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags; and standard roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.

The 2015 INFINITI Q70L also includes standard 3-point front and rear seat belts, front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, front seat Active Head Restraints with 4-way manual adjustments, along with LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren).

Four Models, Six Available Packages
The 2015 INFINITI Q70L lineup starts with four well-equipped models: Q70L 3.7 (V6 rear-wheel drive), Q70L 3.7 AWD (V6 all-wheel drive), Q70L 5.6 (V8 rear-wheel drive) and Q70L 5.6 AWD (V8 all-wheel drive)

Six equipment packages are also offered. The Premium Package (standard on the Q70L 5.6) includes INFINITI Hard Drive Navigation System, Voice Recognition for audio, navigation and vehicle information systems, 8-inch WVGA color touch-screen display, NavTraffic with Real-Time Traffic Information, NavWeather with Real-Time Weather (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately) and 3-day forecast; INFINITI Connection telematics system with available safety, security and convenience service; Bose® 2-channel 10-speaker Premium Audio system; Streaming audio via Bluetooth®; climate-controlled front seats; heated steering wheel; rear sonar system; Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection; and rear heated seat.

The Deluxe Touring Package (Q70L 3.7 models only) features the Bose® Studio Surroundâ sound system with digital 5.1-channel decoding, 16 speakers; power rear sunshade; semi-aniline leather seating; unique quilted seat pattern with additional seat bolstering; White Ash silver-powdered wood trim; suede-like headliner; premium soft-touch material for armrests, door inserts, center console and knee pads; and premium stitched meter hood.

A long list of advanced safety and security features are offered with the Technology Package, including Intelligent Cruise Control (Full-Speed Range); Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP); Distance Control Assist (DCA); Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW); Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot Intervention® (BSI) systems; Front Pre-Crash Seat Belts; Active Trace Control; Eco Pedal; Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) with auto-leveling headlights; Forward Emergency Braking (FEB); Back-up Collision Intervention (BCI); and Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW).

The Performance Tire & Wheel Package includes 20x9-inch split 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels; 245/40R20 all-season performance tires; and Sport Brakes with aluminum 4-psiton opposed front calipers/2-piston opposed rear calipers.

The V8 LWB Deluxe Technology Package combines the content of the Deluxe Touring Package Content and Technology Package. Finally, the Pearl Paint Package includes a special pearl finish for the Moonlight White paint exterior color.
